Real Mom Review: Red Caboose Motel

I took my two boys on an overnight trip to the Red Caboose Motel in Lancaster, PA during spring break. We had a wonderful time! My boys (ages 7 and 10) absolutely loved the experience of staying in such a unique place. We made the most of our visit there and enjoyed pretty much all the hotel and surrounding area had to offer.

I kept our destination a surprise for my kids. As we pulled into the motel, they squealed when they found out they were staying in a REAL caboose!

I booked a “large family caboose," which had a double bed, bathroom, and two bunk beds. Each boy was thrilled to have their own “top bunk." The beds were comfortable and we all slept well. The caboose front door was a little flimsy, but the heater kept us warm and cozy throughout the night.

Over the weekend, another fun experience was having breakfast in the real railroad dining car at the motel.

We also enjoyed visiting the animals in the petting zoo, climbing to the top of the viewing tower (we took turns counting how many silos we could see across the farmland), playing on the playground  - mud didn’t stop my kids from having fun!, watching the Strasburg Railroad go by and waving to the passengers, exploring Amish farms (we received great recommendations from the staff at the Red Caboose), riding the steam train, visiting the railroad museum, eating a big buffet dinner one night and much more.

The weekend we were there was pretty much the beginning of the tourist season, but everyone was friendly, and it worked out just fine. 

I would highly recommend the Red Caboose Motel for a fun family getaway!
