One of the main reasons that we love Ocean City, Maryland, is the boardwalk. This famed wooden boardwalk is three miles long, and it has been praised by Travel Channel, National Geographic, and USA Today as one of the best in the United States.

Every year, since I was a child, I would visit this popular destination. My family and I decided to take our yearly trip, and we chose to stay at the Howard Johnson by Wyndham Oceanfront Plaza Hotel. Located at 12th street on the boardwalk, this hotel was recently remodeled and awarded the #1 Howard Johnson Hotel in the U.S. in 2016.

Being on the boardwalk is a prime location because you can literally park your car and leave it in the garage until you are ready to go home. Just steps from the beach, as well as all the shops and yummy restaurants -all the fun is right there! Plus, you are near The Pier, amusement rides, fun entertainment, and even miniature golf.

Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted by friendly staff members. When it comes to amenities, the hotel offers FREE on-site garage parking, a restaurant, a heated indoor pool, hot tub, private balcony, microwave and mini-fridge and FREE Wi-Fi. After check-in, make sure to go to the pool level floor and grab all the free magazines and coupon books; they will be filled with tons of information and special offers.

On your visit to Ocean City check out the Dough Roller restaurant. It is one of our favorites! We love their pizza, breakfast, and soft-shell crab sandwiches. Also, don't forget to indulge in some special treats, such as Thrasher's boardwalk Fries, Dolle's taffy and candy apples, chocolate-covered anything at Jessica's Fudge, and some caramel popcorn at Fisher's Popcorn. Our family never leaves without trying these special sweet treats.

When it comes to activities, we always visit The Pier. You can go out on it for 50 cents as a spectator. We also play miniature golf at least once during our trip. There are a lot of different miniature golf locations to choose from. You may also want to check out Trimpers Rides and Amusements, a family-owned amusement park located at the end of the boardwalk that has played a huge role in Ocean City's history for the last 100 years.
